Montana Warrior Run – Billings, MT

Honor Thru Sweat For Those Who Have Sacrificed With Blood

Warrior Run - Rimrock Auto 2015

WHEN: 23 August, 2015 – 1000 hours (10:00am)

WHERE: To be held at swords park on the rims overlooking Billings, MT
a 5k run for everyone and an 8.5 MILE warrior run for those who dare!

What is the course like? There are two courses, a 5K Run / Walk and an 8.5 (aprox) Warrior Run. The 5K Run/Walk is an out and back course along the beautiful Swords Park Trail. Along the course you will enjoy expansive views of the City of Billings and the Yellowstone Valley highlighted by the magnificent Beartooth Range and Pryor Mountains. The Warrior Run is a challenging course starting along the same Swords Park Trail, rounding Skeleton Cliff, looping back and climbing to Yellowstone Kelly’s Grave before dropping into the Black Otter Trail System taking runners by the Old Swords Homestead, Across Alkali Creek Road and back into the trail system where runners will be faced with a 700 plus foot vertical climb of steep rock terrain before heading back along Swords Trail to the finish.
Is this a relay race? No relay teams are permitted.
Where is the Start? The Race Start is at the Swords Park Trail Head to the WEST of the airport round-a-bout – Follow 27th Street to the top of the Rims, proceed around the round-a-bout exiting to the west, the event start and parking will be on the left side of the road. What Time does the Race Start? The Warrior Run will start at 10:00 (am) promptly – The 5k will start at 10:05
What time should I be there? It’s a good idea to be there 30 min before the event and an hour before the event if you plan on registering the day of the race. Same day registration will end at 9:30 am.
A traditional run would indeed help us reach our goal of awareness and funding for veterans and veterans issues in our area, however I wanted this to be more than a timed run. I wanted to create a course that required those who chose to participate to have dig just a little deeper to finish. It is my hope that those who participate will reflect not on their performance in the race, but rather reflect , honor and perhaps relate in a small way through the sacrifice of sweat and pain those who sacrificed with blood so that we can gather in peace for such an event. For those of you questioning if you can finish the Warrior course, or concerned that you may be embarrassed by your performance…don’t. Tie on your shoes, run, walk, help a buddy, keep moving and finish. It may be long, it may very well challenge you, and it indeed might hurt, but in the end you will, in a small way through the sacrifice of sweat, honor those who have sacrificed so much for you.Whether you choose to honor through the 5k or the Warrior Run, thank you for showing up, God bless you and God bless this great country. See you August 23, 2015 – Russ Palmer

The Montana Warrior Run is sponsored by Andrew Pearson Post 117 & Volkswagen Billings to support veteran’s issues in Billings and Yellowstone County.

Run for Life brings family and friends together to raise money for cancer research

May 23rd, 2015

On May 23rd, Montana family and friends celebrated with those who have survived cancer, and honored those who are no longer with us, with the goal of raising money for cancer research in partnership with the American Cancer Society.

The weather was great as close to 340 participated in the second annual run that started and finished at Rimrock GMC Cadillac. That’s about twice as many as last year. Rimrock Subaru, Rimrock GMC Cadillac, and Volkwagen Billings sponsored the run this year, along with McDonalds and St. Vincent Healthcare.

This event is partly a celebration leading up to Relay for Life on July 10th.

“Not only have we raised funds for relay, we’ve raised friendships,” said Robin Hanel, co-chair for Yellowstone County Relay for Life. “Met people we would’ve never met. Heard stories I would’ve never heard and appreciate every day all the more. It’s good, there are many benefits you can’t measure. It’s beautiful. Life is good.”

“Any time you can support the community and try to put a dent in that disease, we feel very honored to be part of it,” said Randy Sears, general manager of Rimrock Auto Group’s GMC Cadillac and Volkswagen dealerships. “We’re excited. We were just talking last week, you know 10 years down the line, we’ll be doing our 1 annual run and hope we can start looking at about a hundred thousand dollars raised for the event, so just glad to be part of it.”

It’s expected this year’s “Run for Life” will raise about 25-thousand dollars.
